I'm definitely making a weird face up there in my pseudo self-portrait, but I wanted to show you the kick-ass shirt my veggie BFF got me.  (Apologies for the obvious boob-shot, but how else am I supposed to get people to read/comment on my blog?  Surely not by quality of writing and content.)  She also got me this great book that I'm reading right now.  Maybe she's trying to tell me something?

I am a fan of meat, and I will defend my meat eating habits to the end, although I recognize the honorable nature of the sin-free vegetarian/vegan life.  However, this guy is kind of crazy.  And by crazy, I mean, kind of interesting.  He is going to attempt to eat 52 different kinds of meat in 52 weeks.  He's also laid down some rules so that he doesn't end up just going to a seafood buffet and finishing up right there.  Now, I do not condone the eating of rare/endangered animals.  That's not cool.  And I would hope that he would also respect that fact.  Seeing as he's just ordering these strange animals from meat distributing websites and not actually sacrificing them himself, I'm not sure that really earns him any respect.  I mean, you do realize what you're putting in your mouth used to be a living breathing animal, right??

Yes, yes I eat meat, aren't I HORRIBLE.  Well, I realize I am eating meat.  I grew up in a household where we were brought to the butchers where we saw the entire animal being cut up.  Or we were brought to the fish mongers where our fish was swimming around in a tank and you pointed to the one you wanted to be killed, de-scaled and gutted.  Fish is served at my house with the head on.  You should know what you are eating.  You are not eating something that grew up covered in plastic on a styrofoam tray.  You are eating something that had a mother and I think all meat eaters should be respectful of this fact.  Which basically means that I think we should eat meat as responsibly as we can.  I think this means no McDonalds or Taco Bell.  That being said, I have had quite a number of different meats.  Shall I try to list them?  Okay.

Beef (Cow), Pork (Pig), Chicken, Turkey, Goat, Lamb, Venison (Deer), Fish (tuna, salmon, trout, tilapia, cod, snapper, sea bass, swordfish…too many), Lobster, Clams, Mussels, Oysters, Crayfish, Jellyfish (does that count?), Shrimp, Eel, Snails, Shark (fin), Scallops, Abalone, Caviar (beluga sturgeon),Goose and Pate (goose liver), Duck (and duck pate), Pigeon, Partridge, Frog, Rabbit, Emu, Kangaroo, Ostrich, Alligator, cricket (chocolate covered).  It's about 30, depending on if you agree that some of those are "meat" or not and if each kind of fish is considered separate.  I hope that I have not eaten anything that I could not cut, clean and cook myself.  Although I can't imagine sacrificing a kangaroo…they are rather cute.  Listing all those meats/animals is kind of humbling.  All those lives that I ate.  Very delicious though, I have to say.  And of course, many of them were one time/special occasion type deals.  It's not like a thaw out an alligator every Tuesday and Thursday or something.

I have to admit, I'd like to try being vegetarian for a while–maybe a month or two?  It would be a very good experience, I think.
